PrestaShop analytics: GA4, built-in statistics, Matomo and the alternatives
Most PrestaShop shops start with the free Google Analytics 4 module and the statistics built into the back office. Together they cover traffic and basic sales, but GA4 only counts the orders it manages to track, and neither tool tells you what changed or why. Below is what each option measures, what it costs at your order volume, and when it is worth adding something on top.
GA4 on PrestaShop: free, but it only counts what it sees
PrestaShop publishes a free Google Analytics module. Its current version needs PrestaShop 8.2 or newer, and shops on 1.7.7 to 8.1 can use version 5.0.3. Install it, paste your measurement ID, and GA4 starts recording visits, product views, carts and purchases. It is the base layer almost every shop should have, and it costs nothing.
The catch is how GA4 counts a sale. It does not read your orders. It records a purchase only when the visitor's browser sends the event, so a customer who declines cookies, uses an ad blocker or pays on an external page and never returns can be missing from GA4 while the order sits in your back office.
GA4 has also improved: it now writes short AI summaries and flags unusual changes in its insights. What it cannot do is check itself against your real orders, or join its numbers with your margins, your Search Console queries and your ad spend in one view.
Check it yourself: count last week's valid orders in the back office, then compare them with purchases in GA4 for the same days. The gap is how much of your sales GA4 cannot see. Our GA4 on PrestaShop guide explains why orders go missing.
The built-in statistics: real orders, little context
PrestaShop ships its own statistics modules under Stats in the back office. They read your shop database directly, so the sales, best-selling products, best customers, vouchers and carriers they show come from real orders, not from tracking.
They stop there. There is no Search Console data, no ad spend and no alerts, and the comparisons are basic. They are good for a quick look at sales at zero cost, and not much more.
Matomo: when privacy matters more than convenience
Matomo is the main alternative to GA4 for shops that want to own their analytics data. The self-hosted version is free, and Matomo Cloud hosts your data in the EU. Matomo's own documentation points PrestaShop users to a free third-party module, and paid modules exist on the Addons marketplace.
Like GA4, Matomo tracks visits and ecommerce events in the browser. It is a better choice if privacy rules or self-hosting are the priority, not if you want your real orders, your search positions and your ads in one report.
Dashboards and reporting modules
If you want more than the built-in statistics without leaving PrestaShop, the Addons marketplace has reporting modules you pay for once:
- Sales Reports Pro (€209.99): about 15 accounting reports, including profit, margins and VAT by country, exported to PDF or CSV. With 113 reviews it is the most reviewed reporting module.
- Op'art stat (€167.99): more than 80 metrics inside the back office with filters, built on your full order history and its own traffic tracking.
- DMU Real Time Statistics (€69.99): live orders and visitor journeys through checkout.
For custom dashboards, Google's free Data Studio (called Looker Studio until April 2026) can pull PrestaShop orders through a connector, such as the Soledis module (€349.99) or Windsor.ai (from $19 a month). This is the flexible route agencies like, but somebody has to build and maintain the dashboards.
Modules answer “what happened in my shop”. None of them bring in Search Console or ad spend, and none tell you when something changes.
All-in-one analytics apps for PrestaShop
A few apps connect to PrestaShop and combine your orders with Google data and ad spend. The ones with a PrestaShop connection today are Fullmetrix, Reaktion, Glew and ManteIQ. Many well-known analytics apps, including Metrilo, Triple Whale, Polar Analytics, Lebesgue and Metorik, support Shopify or WooCommerce but not PrestaShop.
- Fullmetrix: a French app with a PrestaShop module, Search Console, GA4 and Google, Meta and TikTok ads, Slack alerts and an AI assistant. Priced by monthly orders.
- Reaktion: a Danish app focused on profit-based ad optimisation and server-side tracking. Priced by monthly orders, from $85 a month for 250 orders.
- Glew: built for larger multichannel sellers, for example Amazon plus a shop. Prices are not published.
- ManteIQ: reads your PrestaShop orders, Search Console, GA4 and Google Ads, tracks your keyword positions and writes one briefing every morning, in the app and on Telegram. Flat price per shop.
The biggest practical difference is how they charge. Apps priced by order volume are cheap for a small shop and get expensive as you grow. A flat price stays the same whatever your volume.

How to choose
- Install GA4 with the official free module either way. It is the standard for traffic, and most other tools read from it.
- Compare GA4 purchases with your back-office orders for last week. If the gap is small and you only need traffic numbers, you may not need anything else.
- If you need accounting exports or detailed product stats, a one-time module like Sales Reports Pro or Op'art stat is the cheaper fit.
- If you want someone, or something, to tell you each morning what changed across sales, search and ads, look at the all-in-one apps and compare the price at your real order volume, not the entry price.
PrestaShop Metrics, the official analytics app, was retired on 1 January 2026. If a guide still recommends it, it is out of date.
Questions about PrestaShop analytics
- Does PrestaShop have analytics built in?
- Yes. The Stats section of the back office shows sales, best-selling products, customers, vouchers and carriers from your own orders. It has no Search Console data, no ad spend and no alerts.
- What is the best Google Analytics module for PrestaShop?
- The free official Google Analytics module by PrestaShop covers most shops and needs PrestaShop 8.2 or newer (version 5.0.3 covers 1.7.7 to 8.1). Paid GA4 and Tag Manager modules on Addons, from about €50 to €120, add consent mode, server-side sending and more control over refunds.
- Why does GA4 show fewer orders than PrestaShop?
- GA4 records a purchase only when the visitor's browser sends it. Declined cookies, ad blockers and payments that finish on an external page without returning to the shop all cause missing orders. Your back office counts every order, so it is the number to trust for sales.
- Is PrestaShop Metrics still available?
- No. PrestaShop retired Metrics on 1 January 2026 and removed it from the marketplace. PrestaShop has said it is working on a new statistics module.
- Can I use Matomo with PrestaShop?
- Yes. Matomo's own documentation recommends a free third-party module, and paid Matomo modules are available on Addons. Matomo is free to self-host, and Matomo Cloud stores data in the EU.
